Kuanyin is the Goddess of Mercy, Compassion, and Healing. She is said to be the one who stills the waters and quiets the restless earth. Though she is a Bodhisattva, one who is qualified to enter Nirvana, she chose to remain on Earth to bring enlightenment to others.
