This exquisite white resin Statue of the Laughing Buddha is handcrafted in Oregon, USA by Mission Studios, and is part of their "Kuanyin and Friends" Collection. The height of this statue is approximately 5 inches.
The image of the Laughing Buddha is based on a wandering Zen Buddhist monk, Hotei, in Japan, who lived centuries ago and is believed to be Maitreya, or the Buddha to come. The statue's plump figure and benign countenance suggest contentment, magnanimity and plenitude.
In this particular Statue, Hotei is depicted with a bowl raised over his head. Etched on the bottom of this statue are the words: "Don't worry, Be Happy." Laughing Buddha, Hotei, brings good luck, contentment and abundance in one’s life. He represents plenitude of whatever one wishes for – be it wealth, happiness or satisfaction.
